You almost have to give them props for legally stealing all that money. And you can be pretty sure they will be back for much more when they realize how easy it was. "Our" legislators have shown they dont even pretend to represent their constituents who were calling their offices to say not to vote for this. So like you say all you can do is watch and hope you dont end up over a barrel with fire to keep you warm.

You have me laughing with pleasure at your brief trample among the political flower beds.

Here in the UK things are no better and we are - willy nilly - as you conclude between the rogues, vagabonds and terminally stupid.

The only thing we can do is not pay taxes to meet these fines on our good nature; since the chances of not having earnings to pay taxes on are looking more likely that might prove easy!

Try taking your debts to Treasurer Hank for a handout. If yoiu can swiftly turn them to a billion or so you might be in with a chance... ;-).

IF President Bush had unveiled his goals for reductions in greenhouse gas emissions at the beginning of his administration instead of in its waning months, he might have actually played a role in linking the United States to global efforts to curb climate change. But the proposals he made yesterday, which in 2001 could have been a starting point for negotiations with advocates of stronger action in Congress, are now too belated and too weak to be more than a historical footnote. All three remaining presidential candidates are committed to much more stringent, mandatory reductions in carbon dioxide.

Hi,
I like the way you write ..Its really different and interesting ... keep the momentum going ..I hope this will really going to help me in future.. Banks and other providers of credit to households have been competing vigorously to expand or protect their market share. In the process, lending standards have been progressively eroded so that lenders are now engaging in practices that would have been regarded as out of the question five or ten years ago.
brilliant. .

You make some good points, Roux, if I may call you that.

I've been a close observer of Boeing for so long that nothing they do or say surprises me. Equally, I've watched otherwise good politicians in Washington State roll over for a belly rub the moment Boeing brass or lobbyists come in the door.

From what I read, the only people greatly benefiting so far from the Bush Administration's Katrina efforts are carpetbagging companies formed just to cash in on the recovery funds.

I regret my view of human nature, formed in the newspaper business over many decades, does not cause me to despair consequently, but simply to nod and say to myself, yup, expected that.

Thank you! You stated it much more eloquently than I could, or did, in my blog (roux3.wordpress.com).

I live on the Gulf Coast, and while I will not be directlly and personally benefitted by the contract, I am so glad to see the Gulf Coast (Mobile, Northwest Florida, Mississippi and Southeast Louisiana) have a chance at some well-paying manufacturing jobs.

Katrina recovery is, while on-going, slow in many ways. These jobs may very well help many people who are striving to keep body, soul and home together.
